Pain and Behavior Assessment
Pain & Behavior Assessment for Dogs
This Assessment May Be a Good Fit If Your Dog Is Experiencing:
- Behavior challenges that haven’t improved with training alone
- Sudden or gradual increases in fear, anxiety, reactivity, or aggression
- Changes in gait, posture, or movement
- Stiffness, hesitation, or reduced willingness to move
- Growling, snapping, or avoidance during handling, grooming, or restraint
- Behavior changes that feel “out of character” or hard to explain
If you’re wondering whether physical discomfort or pain could be contributing to your dog’s behavior, this assessment is the place to start.
How the Pain & Behavior Assessment Works
Step 1
Deep-Dive Pain & Behavior Consultation (60- 90 minutes via Zoom)
We will conduct an in-depth conversation about dog’s behavior challenges, training history, medical background, daily routines, and movement patterns. I’ll ask questions to understand how your dog moves through their world and where stress or discomfort may be showing up.
Step 2
Guided Photo & Video Collection
After our consultation, you’ll receive clear instructions on how to collect specific photos and videos of your dog in various positions and everyday activities. You’ll gather this footage over a 2–3 week period.
Step 3
Written Report for You and Your Veterinarian
I will carefully analyze your dog’s movement, posture, and behavior patterns and prepare a detailed written report. This report will be sent to your veterinarian and will highlight specific observations that may warrant further medical evaluation.
Step 4
Follow-Up Call (45 minutes via Zoom)
We’ll meet again to review the findings together, discuss what they may mean, and talk through next steps—whether that includes veterinary follow-up, behavior support, environmental changes, or management strategies. If you choose to sign up for private training with me at this time, you will receive a 20% discount on your first package or session.
Why This Approach Is Different
Many behavior concerns are addressed in isolation. This assessment looks at the whole dog.
As a Certified Dynamic Dog Practitioner and a behavior consultant who specializes in older dogs and complex behavior problems, I have the education and experience to help you and your dog to identify if there may be chronic pain contributing to your dog’s behavior problems.
This assessment does not diagnose medical conditions, but it can provide valuable insight into where and how pain or discomfort may be playing a role, and how to move forward with your veterinarian involved.
