What Clients Say
“Kristen came to my house and gave us many practical ways to work with my dog involving her reactivity toward neighboring dogs. One month later, we are seeing a lot of progress!! I also felt that her fees were reasonable. She is very helpful/responsive via email. As a veterinarian, I will be recommending her to many of my clients that are in need of training services!” — Rachel P
Kristen has been a wonderful help in teaching us to understand and manage behaviors displayed by our newly adopted, easily aroused two-year old pit mix. She is always prompt in arriving to our at-home training sessions, is very professional and takes the time to provide thorough answers to our emailed questions. Her training plans are easy to follow and she provides plenty of links, videos and other tools for our use.” — Tina L
Is private training right for me?
Private training is helpful because the training plan and support are tailored to you, your dog, and your specific needs and goals.
Because it is conducted in your home, it is very helpful for behavior modification of behavior issues specific to your home environment and/or daily outings.
Private training can also be a more successful training setup than group classes for dogs who are fearful or become easily over-excited in busy settings.
Because it is one-on-one, every moment of the session is focused on helping you and your companion animal achieve your goals and understand each other.
What does the training process look like?
The first step is a consultation (60-90 minutes, in-home or online) where we get to know each other. I go over how my training works and how you can get the most out of working with me.
We then go into detail about you, your companion animal, and what you are looking for help with. We come up with an initial management and training plan to get you to your goals.
I send a follow-up summary email with all of my recommendations.
All following sessions are 1 hour and include a detailed follow-up emailed training plan and ongoing support.
How many training sessions will my dog need?
This varies greatly depending on your training goals, your dog’s personality and training history, and the amount of time and effort you are able to put towards practicing.
During sessions with me, I work with you and your dog to show you how to get started on training new behaviors. From there, it is up to you to put the training plan into practice in your daily life.
Some clients receive the initial plan guidelines from me at the consultation and conduct the majority of the training on their own. Other clients like having more hands-on support from me.
Sessions can be spaced out in a variety of ways depending on what works best for each client. We can meet weekly, bi-weekly, or even monthly.
